I always knew having boys would mean we would be frequent visitors at doctors and urgent care offices. What I didn't expect is that it would start so young!
Last week we met with a GI doc because Liam is not gaining weight. This led to some tests at the local children's hospital over the span of two days. We don't have those results back yet but the GI doc started Liam on a special drink that has helped him gain almost 2 pounds in a week!
Fast forward to a week later and I am at the pediatrician with Liam discovering a double ear infection. His second since December. One more between now and June and he will get tubes. We WILL be more proactive this time than with Kayden.
As we are walking out of the doctors office my phone rings. It is Kayden's school. My heart drops because that is never good. The staff member tells me that he ran head on into another kid while wearing sun glasses and he has a bad cut.
I rush over to get him and then meet up with Adam at Urgent Care. Poor Liam has a fever and is melting down so Adam carted him home.
Kayden's split was in a tough spot so we decided to watch it and agreed to take him back in if it started bleeding again.
His special treat request was simply for chocolate so we headed next door and loaded up his froyo.
I am so thankful for doctors and nurses of every type who have the best bedside manner with my kids. You walk a fine line when you have a hurt or sick kid between frantic and keeping a calm face for the benefit of your child. A good doctor knows how freaked out you are and puts your worries at ease. In some ways they are treating two patients and they handle it perfectly.
